Textiles and Treasures of Peru
See the superb art, gold and textile museums of Lima. Visit superb ancient pre-Inca archeological sites and related museums on Peru's north coast, including the pyramid of the Lord of Sipan (called "King Tut of the Americas"), El Brujo, ChanChan and Huaca del Dragon; see the textile cache in the Trujillo University Museum with Peruvian archeologist, Arabel Fernandez. Travel with Peruvian weaver, Nilda Callaņaupa, to remote hamlets to watch expert weavers and knitters. Thrill to fascinating Inca sites such as Machu Picchu and others around Cuzco, and the earlier site of Tiwanaku in Bolivia. Shop the overflowing art/textile markets of Cuzco and La Paz. Meet knitters in cooperatives in both Cuzco and La Paz, and tour an alpaca designer sweater company in La Paz!
In Lima, we stay in a flowery private home-turned-bed-and-breakfast; on the north coast, we relax in a beachside resort with pool. In Cuzco, we stay in a beautiful Colonial-era building, deemed a National Historical Monument; in La Paz, we enjoy a charming hotel with pretty courtyard and excellent restaurant. Everywhere we will have delicious meals of traditional or international cuisine.
We land in Lima, spend several days, then fly to the Trujillo area. We fly back to Lima, then on to Cuzco and later down to La Paz. All other interior transportation is by private van.
